A trip to the spa

Today I read a fair amount of my Educated book. It does get intense, and yet I find myself unable to put it down. I did some laundry this morning and then got ready to go pick up my years’ supply of contacts from the eye doctor. However, it was a bit of an adventure given that my phone was running low on battery power and my car was running low on gas. Luckily, I drive a Subaru Forrester, whom I have affectionately dubbed “Forrest.” He is a good car with a smooth ride and good gas mileage. I kept hearing my Mom’s voice in my head telling me that I could drive quite a ways, even with the gas light on. That turned out to be true.

I read about Solomon today in the Message. My name “Sophia” means “wisdom” in Greek, so I hope I can make the right decisions just like Solomon does. In fact, Mom thinks that I would make a wonderful judge. Mom, Dad, and I went to the Cliff Lodge and Spa up at Snowbird today. We all relaxed and felt like noodles afterwards. Mom and Dad enjoyed the hot tub and Mom and I took advantage of the sauna and steam room. We also rode bikes together in the gym area. Later on that evening, we watched sports. My brother Luke had a high school classmate come over. They shot a video for his friend’s student government campaign. I think our dog Rosie may have been in it as well! The Utah Jazz won big time over the Brooklyn Nets. Tomorrow is Saint Patrick’s Day, so I’m wearing green to bed so I don’t get pinched.

Purple Carrot is here! My Mom wanted to try a meat-free and dairy-free food service, and it’s actually been surprisingly delicious so far. We are also still enjoying Blue Apron. Dad has his Big Green Egg and his Instant Pot. Today I am writing after having had some crazy dreams last night. It has been a long, full week coupled with a Jazz Game on Thursday night. I think the hot tub we did last night also relaxed me! Yesterday, I spend the morning housebound while the car I drove was in the shop having an emissions test done. After lunch, I was able to drive it downtown. Yesterday was the final day of working on my project, for now. I’ll share my progress with my Professor on Monday when classes and my internship resume. I returned home just in time for dinner. My parents took me to see a movie called “Stan and Ollie,” about the final tour of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. It was unexpectedly touching. Mom and I both got a little teary. There’s something so incredibly difficult about goodbyes. I remember the pain of leaving everyone in Georgia behind when I moved to Utah almost nine years ago. It also parallels the goodbye between David and Jonathan in The Message. Whenever I hear the David story, I can’t help but think of the Veggie Tales days of my youth; especially “King George and the Ducky. ”

Greetings!

Today began with my cat, Jasmine, licking my cereal bowl. She tends to do that on occasion. I grabbed it away from her and gave her some fresh water. We have discovered that cats don’t like to drink water when there is food nearby, so we moved Jasmine’s water bowl, or cup, rather, to the kitchen sink.

Today is part of my spring break, so I can relax a little bit. I started off the day by watching a TV show that I’ve been getting into recently called The Order, which is about a college student who joins a magical secret society in order to avenge his Mother’s death. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and I am a sucker for all things magical, so I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. Jasmine joined me downstairs in the basement and proceeded to sleep there long after I left.

The next thing I did was I played around on my phone. I like to do some creative writing when I have the time and the inspiration. I felt like it flowed better today than it did yesterday. That’s always a good feeling.

I left my copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil at school, so I started reading a book my Mom lent me called Educated. I haven’t gotten very far, but this woman’s story fascinates me! She grew up with six siblings in a very unorthodox household until her Grandparents decide to take her with them to begin schooling in Arizona. I sat outside, because there has been a reprieve from the snow over the last couple of days. However, it’s expected to return by Thursday.

I’ve also gotten into my Message bible, which was a birthday present from my Mother. Too bad our Amazon Alexa spoiled the surprise! Today after lunch I read about the close friendship between David and Jonathan. I stopped just as David took Saul’s spear and jug of water from his bedside as he slept. David has had every opportunity to kill Saul, but he insists that he is not allowed to lay a hand on God’s anointed.

I got ready to work on a school project downtown when I decided I had better take some photos for this blog! By the time I arrived home, I was able to select my profile picture and set up this website. I will work some more on both my project and this website tomorrow. Until then, signing off!
